Bright House Networks of Michigan Brings Veterans Day to Students
In honor of the holiday, local cable provider takes military veterans to area schools
Livonia, Mich. - November 6, 2008
In honor of Veterans Day and in conjunction with History Channel's Take a Veteran to School Day initiative, Bright House Networks of Michigan, the leading provider of cable television, high speed Internet and digital phone services, is bringing local military veterans to Thurston High School on Monday, November 10, 2008, to share their personal stories with students and teachers.
Bright House's Take a Veteran to School Day features a special History Channel presentation - The Story of Veterans Day - devoted to this holiday, which honors all men and women who have served in the U.S Armed Forces. Bright House has enlisted 11 Veterans to serve as the storytellers of this campaign. Among the participating veterans, three have served in WWII, one in Patton's Army.
"Veterans Day honors the many men and women who have made the sacrifices necessary to keep our country safe. At Bright House we recognize the importance of our communities' military veterans," said Robert McCann, president of Bright House Networks of Michigan. "Take a Veteran to School Day gives students the perfect opportunity to learn about the nation's history, as the History Channel presentation captures the valor and courage of American soldiers throughout U.S. history."
The History Channel developed Take a Veteran to School Day as a national initiative, linking veterans of all ages with young people in area schools and communities. The Story of Veterans Day is a half-hour long presentation exploration of Veterans Day from its initial founding as Armistice Day through the contemporary parades and commemorations which take place throughout the nation today. The presentation also features archival footage and photographs of soldiers past and present.
